Town hall Meeting

This morning after ruminating the discussion and talking points about what to do with “Frazier Park”, I had some reoccurring questions about the sustainability of some the Grandiose ideas presented there last nite.

First, I would like to know the amount of money that is currently spent on our golf facilities here in Ulysses and I also would like to know the revenue generated through memberships, pro shop, cart rental, green fees and private donations. I for one was shocked to hear City Council Members advocating to put a restaurant in the club house at the expense of our already established, privately owned and  privately funded food entrepreneurs. Putting a competing business in to vie for food sales just seems unfair! I also feel, that a restaurant in the Club House would be a huge money pit as is the back nine holes of the golf course. I also feel that the continual turmoil that we perpetually have with this Department should be considered.

Second, I do not feel that the campground should be expanded. I would also like to know information pertaining to the campground as to the income, average length of stay, and daily census. Seems to me, there are a lot of sub contractors and temporary employees that come to Ulysses that bring a motor home or trailer that they can park for $15 a nite for an unlimited amount of time. I believe there are four or five privately owned parks that would love to have that same piece of the pie instead of competing with the City of Ulysses for that revenue.

I did hear a truly great idea about electric outlets to promote and facilitate a lighted Christmas Venue.

Soccer fields and a Bandstand, I feel create more maitenance than this community can afford to sustain.

I am amazed at the amount of projects that we, as a community, are willing to embrace with not a lot of forethought as to the upkeep and maintenance of these new proposals.

We have a wonderful community here, however it is not ever going to be a destination spot and I think we should try and better maintain what we already have.

Lastly, to me and many others, Frazier Park has always been somewhat of an accessible nature preserve and I believe that the plans that I heard last nite will ruin that aspect of Frazier Park. In my opinion, lyrics from Joni Mitchell’s song “Big Yellow Taxi” from 1970 speaks volumes about your ideas for Frazier Park.

“They paved paradise to put up a parking lot.”

Yours truly,

Keric Sullivan
