A suspect sought in connection with a homicide in Garden City has died of what authorities say was a "self-inflicted gunshot wound."

Authorities in Garden City sent out a request for assistance on Saturday, April 1, in locating Armando Pavon Campos, 44, of Garden City, in connection to a homicide that had occurred in their city.

According to authorities from the Garden City Police Department, they were called to the 1300 block of Conkling Avenue at approximately 2:40 p.m., Friday, March 31 for a person down. When authorities arrived, they discovered Julia Landeros, 63, deceased inside the residence. Landeros had been stabbed, authorities said, and they determined the stabbing had most likely occurred earlier in the week.

Campos was identified as a suspect in the incident.

Saturday, authorities from the Dodge City located Campos, who had barricaded himself inside a residence in their city near Market Circle.

Officials from the Garden City/Finney County SWAT team, Dodge City Police Department, and Kansas Highway Patrol all responded to the residence where according to a report released, they attempted to "negotiate with the suspect."

"The situation has ended, unfortunately with the subject having died of a self-inflicted gunshot," said a spokesperson for the Dodge City Police Department.

Law enforcement was on scene still attempting to negotiate with Campos at 10:02 p.m., Sunday. At that time, citizens in Dodge City were asked to "stay clear of the area."

The latest release was provided Monday morning and did not state when the standoff had ended, just that "during negotiations, Campos was found deceased."
