Man's Best Friend Returns 'Home For The Holidays'

JC and Rochelle Haney witnessed a true holiday miracle when their beloved companion made a surprising return.

Three years ago, in late October 2020, Oslo, Rochelle’s “heart dog”, went missing.

“Both of us came down with COVID November 7, 2020, which severely limited us to be looking for him,” explained Rochelle.

After several days of driving around and calling out for Oslo, JC and Rochelle were unsuccessful in finding their Pyrenees friend.

On October 27, Furever Friends of Grant County located a large dog which had been reported roaming around the countryside. The male canine appeared “very thin and lethargic”, according to Furever Friends. Volunteers were requested via Facebook to assist in loading and unloading him to and from veterinarian appointments.

On the same Facebook post, a family member of the Haneys commented, “I bet this is my aunt Rochelle Haney’s dog that has been missing for a long time.”

Rochelle followed up on the post, commenting with a photo of her dog, Oslo, with a friend. Furever Friends responded, “Wow…that looks like the same nose and dark ears.”

Rochelle continued to give details including Oslo’s disinterest in doghouses and blankets regardless of cold weather.

“I sure hope it’s my pup,” she said. “I have missed him dearly.”

In a heartwarming update November 7, Rochelle shared the journeying “pup” was indeed Oslo, after JC visited and confirmed his identity. JC and Rochelle extended their gratitude for Furever Friends efforts.

“If you are looking for a charity to donate to at the end of the year, you couldn’t ask for a better group of ladies to work with.”

At 10 years old, Oslo has endured a story which will never be told in full. However, it was clear he had a rough time while away.

“He is still very weak and fragile, and will probably need further veterinary care,” shared Rochelle.

Additionally, Oslo had lost 50 to 60 pounds and had been shot, which left his rear muscles severely atrophied.

“You would think after wandering for three years, he would be afraid of people and not want anything to do with anyone, but he is so loving and kind,” said Rochelle to a friend.

Since returning home, Oslo has adapted to his surroundings.

“He’s getting spoiled but that’s okay,” said Rochelle. “It’s just a miracle to have him back, and I thank all those dog angels and people up there that guided him back home to us.”
