Reader Shares Frazier Park Blue-Green Algae Concerns

Posted

As KDHE has yet again tagged Frazier Lake with a blue green algae “WARNING” status, I am wondering about the safety at the lake and the sensibility of adding more water attractions there. I believe our city council now  has, or will soon  be reviewing plans  to further develop Frazier lake along with Frazier park as a draw to this community.

First, are these plans prudent from a health standpoint?

With the reoccurring “Warning” status from KDHE, are we being wise to invest more money into an identified potential health risk? Have we as a community, put up adequate warning signs to  inform and protect  our citizens and others?

Second, is Bentwood Golf Course and our Cemetery safe being irrigated from a reservoir known, and identified by KDHE as a potential danger?  I asked “Google” if irrigation water from a blue green infested source posed any significant danger in its new environment. The results were staggering. I would invite you to look it up for yourselves.

Perhaps there is some treatment before the water is being sprayed onto the golf course and Cemetery that I am not aware of, (I truly hope there is), but why have we, the tax paying citizens not been advised as to the treatment if there is any, or the potential hazards if there aren’t any precautions being taken?

I urge every person to query our City Council members and administration as to the lack of transparency about the health risks and what their plans are to deal with it at Frazier park.

Third, I am assuming and hoping  that our  city council members would want to know, by a vote, what their taxpayers think and want at Frazier park!
