SUBLETTE - A Social media potential threat post prompted school officials at Sublette to give students and staff and extra long weekend last week.

According to Haskell County Sheriff Troy Briggs, the post resulted in the arrest of an adult female, Raquel Castaneda, of Sublette.

Briggs said his office is continuing the investigation in to the matter, which was reported to the Haskell County Sheriff's Office at 12:04 p.m., January 5.

"School officials made the decision, based off the social media post, to cancel school for (Friday)," Briggs said.

Haskell County Sheriff's Office and officials from the USD 374 School District in Sublette worked together on the investigation of the alleged incident. That investigation resulted in the arrest of Castaneda with the assistance of officials from the Finney County Sheriff's Department. Castaneda now faces charges of felonyaggravated criminal threat.

A notice posted on a Sublette School Facebook page stated, "NO SCHOOL FRIDAY January 6, 2023 Because of safety concerns - USD 374 classes are cancelled tomorrow." School did reopen Monday and officials released a statement regarding the incident on their Facebook page.

"We have been informed by Haskell County Sheriff that there is no longer a threat to our schools, students, faculty, or staff. Please be assured the safety and welfare of our students and staff are foremost in handling situations. As your Superintendent, I am completely confident the situation has been resolved and school attendance is safe.” The statement was signed by School Superintendent Rex Richardson.

Briggs stated last Friday "there is not a danger from this incident to the community at this time."

All suspects are to be considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
