Tammy Ranae Schmidt, age 51, of Wichita, Kansas, formerly of Ulysses, Kansas, died Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas, from complications of COPD. She was born December 13, 1970, in Garden City, Kansas, the daughter of Roy Allen Schmidt and Patricia (McVey) Schmidt.

Tammy with her older sister, Lorie, and little brother, Allen, were raised in the 70’s & 80’s at Ulysses, Kansas, a community that personified a safe small American rural area. Her childhood was filled with happy times including occasional family gatherings of the older generation. She attended Red Rock Elementary School for two years before completing her education at Western Plains Christian School. At the tender age of eleven, she expressed peace with God and was baptized into The Church of God in Christ Mennonite on March 3, 1981, by Minister Ron Ensz.

A love for people was Tammy’s life, shining in loyalty to family and close friends. Her underlying strength was a beacon to wayfaring mothers.

On Tammy’s road of life, she encountered some challenging curves – emotionally, physically and spiritually. But she kept a tight grip on the wheel and with an array of family, friends, neighbors, and skilled workers she navigated her course. As her health deteriorated, she bravely endured pain and discomfort and remained cheerfully determined.

During the last several weeks of her life, she sensed the call of the Lord. She expressed a desire to be saved. Teardrops fell freely. For this, we Thank God and trust in His mercy.

She is survived by her children, Jerika Litwiller and husband Brandon of Texhoma, Oklahoma; Cody Nichols and wife Bethany of Chickasha, Oklahoma, and Joshua Wedel of Mountain Grove, Missouri; father, Roy Schmidt of Ulysses; mother, Patricia Schmidt of Atlanta, Texas; sister, Lorie Nichols and husband Lowell of Bradley, Arkansas; brother, Scotty Allen Schmidt of Ulysses; and grandchildren, Ahnika Litwiller and Alaiya Nichols.

Tammy is preceded in death by one nephew, Gavin Nichols.

Funeral service was held on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at the Grant Mennonite Church with Ministers Denton Koehn, Stuart Jantzen and Kelly Wedel officiating. Interment followed at the Grant Mennonite Cemetery. Arrangements are in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880. Condolences may be posted at www.garnandfuneralhomes.com.
