Winners of the Junior Adult Tournament at Tower Lanes were: sixth place, Oren and Lucy Altis; fifth place, Ashley Hines and Carol Ochs; tied for fourth were Kyle Johnson, Bob Buhr, Trent Baker and Heather Baker; third place, Larry and Oren Altis; second place, Kathy Schwarzer and Brandon Gordon; and first place, Alisha Rogers and Joyce Rogers.

Jan Maters, a native Dutch artist living in Texas was to conduct art classes at the 4-H building.

E.D. Bruntzel, acting mayor of Ulysses, was elected mayor.

Jean Faulkner, a student nurse at Garden City, will be flying to Europe to attend classes in London, Munich and Rome. Also going on the tour were Dana Boylan, Nancy Ward, and Melinie Epps of Ulysses.

Over abundant moisture in the area may alter plans of farmers contracted by the Weaver Popcorn Company.

New city councilmen elected were Jack C. McDaniel for first ward and Wayne Jarvis in second ward. Lester Kennedy and Lewis D. Porter were reelected as members of the city's governing body.

Grant County 4-H members won blue ribbons on half their events in the regional 4-H day at Johnson.

Aldene S. Langford, Grant County Home Demonstration agent resigned from her position.

The high school senior class will present their class play "Drums of Death".

The prospective wheat in Grant County was hanging on in spite of adverse weather in the area.

Feed wheat was available for Grant County farmers. It could be had at $1.04 a bushel - 100 percent of corn parity.

Elected to the city were RR. Bechtelheimer, mayor; D.T. Hart, Claude Meritt, Howard Phifer, George M. Coffey, and Harry Sturman, councilmen; and Carl McCann, police judge.

The Red Cross War Fund Drive netted a total of $1,381.25 for Grant County, $481.25 over the quota of $900 set.

The local Pumpkin Ball Players met at the gymnasium. The four teams are to be managed by Jack Goodnight, Levi Miller, J.R. Lyle and Bill Annis.

R.C. Harrison was called to St. Louis the first of the week for medical examination in connection with his Army service.

A number of the district schools have closed for the year. The general report is that most of the schools have done good work during the term just closed.
