The Ulysses Tigers had a big night at Maxwell Field on Friday, Sept. 25, defeating the Scott City Beavers 37-0. The win marked the first time Ulysses has defeated Scott City since 2013 and moved the Tigers to a 3-1 record on the season.
The evening started before kickoff with a football tailgate cookout. Pioneer Communications provided a free pulled pork meal for fans attending the game. The theme for the night was “Blackout,” with fans encouraged to wear black. Blackout shirts were also available through Golden Plains Credit Union.
Ulysses got on the scoreboard early when Caden Ledesma ran the ball in for the Tigers’ first touchdown of the game.
The Tigers continued to find the end zone throughout the night. Stryker Berglund finished with two touchdowns and 83 rushing yards. Jaxon Curl had four receptions for 74 yards and added a touchdown.
Halftime also featured the Little Cheer participants. The young cheerleaders spent several days practicing with the UHS cheerleaders before taking the field and performing for the crowd during halftime.
Weather eventually brought the game to an early end. Coaches met with game officials and made the decision to call the game, giving Ulysses the 37-0 victory.
The shutout made the night even more memorable for the Tigers, who celebrated their first victory over the Beavers in 13 years in front of their home crowd at Maxwell Field.
