Ulysses Community Health Workers Join Forces At The Capitol

Posted

Community health workers from Grant County ventured to the capitol to attend Kansas Medical Society’s (KMS) Advocacy Day Wednesday, January 24.

Advocacy Day provides community health workers an opportunity to educate legistlative leaders about concerns within the practice of medicine. KMS’s website states, “The practice of medicine is significantly shaped by policy at the state level on issues such as tort reform, payor issues, and scope of practice.”

Lucy Watie, Immunize Kansas Coalition member, spoke about her experience in Topeka.

“When a community works together towards a common goal, it becomes stronger and more resilient," Waite said. "Conversely, if each member of the community works in isolation for their own personal gain, the community becomes weak and fragmented. True leadership involves a commitment to the greater good of the community. I can’t express enough how much I appreciate the support and representation from these leaders of our community. On behalf of Immunize Kansas Coalition, we are so grateful that you traveled to Topeka to join us for Advocacy Day at the Capitol.”

Watie was joined by her group of Promotoras, Margaret Obholz of Impact Ulysses, and Denise James and Ludivina Gonzales of Grant County Health Department.
