Vicenta Degollado Luna

Vicenta Degollado Luna, 80, died Monday, June 12, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kans.

She was born August 29, 1942, in Dr. Arroyo, Nuevo León, Mexico, the daughter of Pedro and Elvira Luna. 

Vicenta grew up in Mexico where she also married Felix Degollado.

They moved to the United States settling in Texas.  In 1970, they moved to Satanta and to Ulysses in 1978 where they made their permanent home. 

Vicenta was a homemaker and devoted wife and mother, who was devoted to raising her children.  She enjoyed cooking for her family, the family gatherings, and just being with her family. 

Vicenta always made time for watching the soap operas on television.  She could also be found tending to the plants she grew and was an active member of Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church.

Vicenta is survived by her husband, Felix, of their home; children: Alfredo Degollado, Connie Ballesteros, Frank Degollado, Felix Jr. Degollado and Ramiro Degollado, all of Ulysses, Macrina Rodriguez, Wichita, Miguel Degollado, Garden City, Rebecca Chavez, Guthrie, Okla.; four brothers; one sister; 31 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Vicenta is preceded in death by her parents, Pedro and Elvira Luna; two sons: Ronnie and Elias Degollado; daughter-in-law, Rosario Degollado; one brother, and two sisters.

Visitation was from 2-8 p.m., Thursday, June 15, and from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., Friday, June 16, at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. 

Rosary took place at 7 p.m.,  Friday, June 16, and Funeral Mass was at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 17, both at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses, with Reverend Charles Seiwert officiating. 

Interment followed at the Ulysses Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to Vicenta Degollado Luna Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS  67880.
