The John Parker family sustained a total loss in a blaze in their home Thursday evening. A total loss of a pot of Hungarian meatballs. When someone left a cooking pot unattended too long, smoke came pouring out the kitchen and someone turned in an alarm. The long-winded Ulysses fire whistle immediately aroused the community into action, and the Ulysses’ brave firemen battled the blaze valiantly, but to no avail.

The first snow of the season fell throughout Grant County and the Southwest Friday night and Saturday morning. The moisture content measured .57 of an inch in Ulysses. This included a light rain that fell before and after the snow.

The Juniors have picked their play, “Two Days to Marry.” This play is a very good one. The cast is going to begin practicing soon.

(Week of October 28, 1922)

During several days’ absence of the missus this week, we had the pleasure of eating some of our own good cooking once more. The taste and variety have not changed much with the passing years, and in the interest of the culinary art we are thinking of having a few of our favorite formulas copyrighted. It is appalling how few housewives can prepare a good meal of dried apples and water.
