Commission Addresses Ditches, Roads, and Pool

Posted

Commissioners discussed farmer concerns about mowing along county road ditches. The county maintains approximately 800 miles of ditches and must keep them clear, creating questions about areas where crops are planted within road rights-of-way.

The commission approved a $20,389 bid from Hoidell to replace a fuel pump on a road bridge and a road-crossing agreement with Pioneer Communications.

Commissioners also approved an agreement with Kirk and Michael to provide engineering services related to a proposed road agreement for the Rupert Solar Project. The agreement does not commit the county to the project.

Christie Anderson of the Grant County Recreation Commission presented pool maintenance concerns. The county owns the pool while the Recreation Commission operates it. Commissioners approved a $7,500 inspection by Paddock Enterprises of Oklahoma City to assess the 40-year-old outdoor pool. Indoor pool pump issues were also discussed, with bids expected later.

The commission approved $2,016 from the local alcohol fund for the Recreation Commission and discussed potentially offering free swimming to increase access for local children and families.

Other business included consideration of a National Weather Service request to install equipment on a county tower, which will first be inspected.

Commissioners set Nov. 12 at 9 a.m. for canvassing the November election and approved $140,161 in county claims.
