  • Sept. 29: Fairytale Fair at the Civic Center, 6:30-8 p.m., hosted by Grant County Library. Volunteers are needed to read stories and provide cookies.
  • Oct. 1: Grant County Health Department flu clinic at the fire department, 7 a.m.-2 p.m.
  • Oct. 1: Grant County Museum chili and cinnamon roll fundraiser, 5-7 p.m., featuring “Ulysses: A Century in Photographs.” Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children.
  • Oct. 1: Blood drive at the Civic Center, 12 p.m.-6 p.m.
  • Oct. 2: Grace Lutheran Church, 205 E Patterson Ave, is hosting their annual Free Family Fun Night from 6-8 p.m. There will be games, a bouncy house, food, and drinks. 
  • Oct. 3: Fall Fest on Main Street will feature food trucks, a car show, vendors, Jake Gill, a beer garden, ping pong ball drop, and tiger egg hunt.
  • Oct. 10-11: Before and CrAfter flea market at the Civic Center.
  • Oct. 24: Grant County Senior Center enchilada fundraiser pickup at 11 a.m. Orders are due Oct. 16.
  • Oct. 24: Wicked Wonderland Car Show downtown, 5:30-10 p.m., with trunk-or-treat, decorated vehicles, contests, vendors, a DJ, and prizes. Businesses are encouraged to come out and decorate their ride and hand out candy. Set up will be from 12 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Oct. 30: Trick-or-Treat Trail on Main Street, 4-6 p.m. Participants can contact Kristi Breese at the recreation department.
  • Nov. 7: Community Health Fair at the Civic Center, 7-10:30 a.m., with free screenings and testing.
  • New local newspaper: Tyler Hook announced plans for a new Southwest Kansas newspaper. The publication is expected to begin printing next week, with information about upcoming issues and distribution locations to be shared on its Facebook page, SWKS News. Community members can follow the page for updates and provide suggestions for local coverage through an online form.
  • Quilts of Valor: Barb Sullins, leader of the local Quilts of Valor group, presented quilts to Ulysses veterans Marcy Stringham and Kyle Stringham in recognition of their military service. Quilts of Valor is a national nonprofit organization that honors service members and veterans who have been touched by war. Sullins said the organization has more than 10,000 members nationwide and has awarded more than 457,000 quilts. The quilts presented to the Stringhams were made by local volunteers.
  • Next Chamber Coffee: Friday, Oct. 2, at Mixer Center.
