Moses and The Burning Bush

Exodus 3-4

Moses saw a burning bush that didn’t burn up. God spoke! He told Moses to lead His people out of Egypt! The whole story of the Exodus is pretty amazing. But did it happen? How do we even know Moses was real person? Let's look at three big reasons why we believe that Moses (and the story of his life) was real.

Clue 1: Egyptian names and details are very accurate!

The story in the Bible contains many, many details about Egyptian life and customs of the day. Even the name “Moses” is an Egyptian name meaning “son”! We see other historical Egyptian leaders named similarly, like “Thutmose” and “Ramses”. Isn’t that amazing? Other sources (discovered by archaeology) show many other biblical details are correct. They are too accurate to have been simply made up by someone else centuries later!

Clue 2: The Exodus Changed Israel’s history!

Israelites have celebrated Passover for over three thousand years, remembering the Exodus. It is referred to in the Bible time and time again, and keeps coming up throughout Israelite history. Something real had to have happened for it to have such a huge impact.

Clue 3: Jesus Confirmed Moses Was Real

Jesus quoted Moses! Luke 24:27 “And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.” And in John 5:46,47 “Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father. There is one who accuses you: Moses, on whom you have set your hope. For if you believed Moses, you would believe me; for he wrote of me.” Jesus said Moses wrote of Him! Jesus never lies. If He says Moses was real, then he was real!

So What? Why does this matter?

Moses really was a “son” of Egypt, thousands of years ago. He wrote the first books of the Bible. God used Moses to rescue His people and lead them to freedom. God kept His promise then, and He will keep His promises now. God can, and will, lead you to freedom and a whole new life—if you will obey and follow Him.
