Young Author Turns Summer Project Into Published Book

What started as a creative summer project has turned into a published book for young Ulysses author Mia Ochoa.

Mia spent much of her summer writing and designing My First Fruits, a colorful book created especially for toddlers. Using Canva, Mia created the entire book herself, spending many hours working on the pages and making changes until she was happy with the finished product.

Her hard work paid off when My First Fruits was officially published and made available for purchase on Amazon. The book introduces toddlers to different fruits through simple words and colorful illustrations. Mia also created a coloring book to accompany her first book.

For Mia, the experience has been about more than publishing a book. It has also shown her that an idea can become something real when you are willing to work for it.

“Follow your dreams, and you can make them come true,” Mia said.

Now, Mia will have the opportunity to celebrate her accomplishment with the community. A book signing will be held Thursday, Sept. 10, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Children’s Department at the Grant County Library, 215 E. Grant Ave. in Ulysses.

Copies of My First Fruits will be available for $10, and Mia will be there to meet visitors and sign books. Refreshments will also be served.

The public is invited to stop by and help celebrate Mia and the publication of her first book.
