WOODWARD, OKLAHOMA - A shooting at the Walmart parking lot in Woodward, Okla. has led to two counts of First Degree Murder being filed against a Beaver County, Okla. man.
The shooting took place about 5 p.m. December 4, in the Woodward Walmart parking lot when Shane Allison, 30, of Beaver County, allegedly shot and killed two individuals.
According to the Woodward Police Department, the victims were identified as Christina Alewine, 42, of Laverne, Okla., and her father, Gary Mulbery, 81. Alewine died at the scene and Mulbery was pronounced dead at OU Trauma in Oklahoma City about 10 p.m. that night.
According to News2Now, Allison was captured by Woodward police at a detention pond on the west side of Woodward High School. Witness reports and surveillance footage led police to the high school, where a meeting was taking place, locking down the facility.
According to News2Now, meeting attendees were temporarily confined as a precautionary measure.
The store remained open, but authorities restricted access to certain areas of the property while the investigation took place. Police were searching for a motive and whether the shooter knew the victims.
In a statement to News 9 Oklahoma City, a Walmart spokesperson said:
“We are heartbroken about what happened. We will continue working with police as they investigate and refer any additional questions to them."
Authorities provided an update this week, with court documents stating that Allison had been living on Mulberry's property in Laverne at the time of the shooting. Authorities in Woodward have yet not determined an exact motive for the murder of Mulberry and his daughter.
A spokesperson from law enforcement there stated, "As far as a concrete motive at this point, we just don't know."
Allison had traveled to Woodward with the father and daughter, as well as his own mother to "go shopping" Authorities said Allison did not go into Wal-Mart with the others. They learned he had taken a bag containing "weapons and a large amount of ammunition" with him on the trip.
"The two victims went to the back of the pickup (they had traveled there in) to load groceries in the back, and that's when the suspect exited the vehicle and walked to the rear (of the vehicle) and shot them both," a law enforcement official stated.
Authorities said since his apprehension, Allison has admitted to shooting the pair with a revolver that they had found on him at the time of his arrest. They stated that Allison said he "planned to come to Woodward just to pop them both."
Court documents stated Allison began planning the killings the day prior to their trip to Woodward. When he was asked about the weapons, Allison stated he was "preparing for war."
Allison is being held in the Woodward County Jail where he was denied bond.
