Biddle Named Responder of the Week

Posted

This week’s Responder of the Month Nominee is Grant County Sheriff James Biddle.

Sheriff Biddle, who was also selected for this honor in 2025, has had a long, distinguished career in law enforcement.

First elected sheriff in 2020, Biddle easily won reelection in 2024. One of his goals when he was first elected in 2020 was to rid Grant County of drugs. That continues to be a goal as he enters his second term as sheriff.

“Drugs are a real issue in Ulysses and Grant County,” Biddle said last year. “When I ran (in 2020), I brought that up and I feel like we’ve worked diligently to try to put a hamper on their business.

Biddle has two adult children and several grandkids in the Ulysses school system and has been in Grant County law enforcement for 29 years, minus two-and-a-half years with the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission’s Dodge City office.

When then-sheriff Babcock offered Biddle the Undersheriff position, he returned to Grant County.

Biddle said one of the challenges has been finding individuals who want to work in law enforcement, and keeping the jail fully staffed.

Biddle has been a supporter of the Southwest Kansas Critical Response Team, with Grant County deputies joining deputies from Seward, Haskell, and Stanton counties.

“I sent my Undersheriff and one of my deputies to S.W.A.T. School and they became certified so they’re part of that team and they’ve done some good things,” Biddle added.

Biddle continues to support the Southwest Kansas Critical Response Team and make sure his deputies continue to get the training and need and continue to serve the county as he has as sheriff.

“I love the community, and I love serving people in whatever they need, it doesn’t matter, they can knock on my door anytime,” he said. “I feel like I’ve done a good job and just continue to do what I’ve been doing and take on the challenges that come up.”
