Last Friday was a special day for Southwest Kansas Sales Carquest. Longtime owner Rick Briggs was honored for his retirement during the June 27 Chamber Coffee, where attendees were treated to cake and Briggs received a special retirement gift.
“I just want to thank everybody for helping us out through the years,” Briggs said, adding thanks for all of his workers.
Briggs had run the store for 19 years from 2006-2025.
Several individuals spoke in honor of Briggs, saying how much it was an honor to work with him over the years. As soon as the building was constructed, they outgrew it. Briggs built the counters.
Briggs was noted for his morals, integrity, and work ethic.
Briggs was presented with a Henry rifle to go along with his extensive collection, complete with a special engraving of his Ford Mustang from high school.
“I just know over the years, Rick’s taken care of us,” said Chamber Director Marieta Hauser, relating how she and her husband bought parts at the store. “We’ve always been able to come in - he takes care of us. It’s wonderful to have somebody who has the work ethic and the will to serve our community, and I really appreciate it.
“It makes me feel really good to know we have people who take care of us like that. We really appreciate all you’ve done for the community.”
