The Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital Auxiliary met in the Cooper-Clark Room of Grant County Library at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 9. Roll call was taken and 10 members were in attendance: Sue-Ellen Borthwick, Joyce Brom, Vana Campbell, Delores Currier, Jeri Howard, Shirley Isbell, Taunya Lindahl, Kim Martin, Delores Ungles, and Bonnie Walters.
President Delores Currier called the meeting to order and members recited the Auxiliary Prayer.

BWMHA has received a flyer regarding the upcoming community Fall Fest and notice of the Fairytale Fair. A thank you note has also been received from Ted Lindahl.
Taunya Lindahl presented the Treasurer’s report and reviewed the Treasurer’s report. She pointed out that the donation in the amount of $530 consisted of payments for handmade items that she had sold outside of the gift shop and donations received for the Health Fair. Taunya also noted that credit card receivables consist of four months of unpaid card charges which she is regularly pursuing. She also noted that dietary and housekeeping employees will have payroll deduct available to them as of January 1, 2025. The Treasurer’s report was approved.
Joyce Brom reported that the Pink Ladies presently have four volunteers and that is working well. It was reported that the last Blood Drive yielded 39 pints, which is better than the previous one.
The gift shop has new things that have just come in and there are some fall items it would be nice to sell before the Christmas items get put on the shelves. There will be a 25 percent off sale. Remember to share the Facebook posts from the gift shop!
The linen sale was a great success this year. There were several new color choices and the sale yielded $941 for the BWMHA’s 20 percent portion of the total sales.
Plans for the Chamber Coffee, which will be at 10 a.m., October 11, were made. There will be a vendor market of hand-crafted items in the hospital lobby, at the same time. Volunteers are to report at 7:30 and vendors will also help with set up. There will be many options including baked goods, jewelry, wood work, candles, and t-shirts.
The nominating committee reported there have been no volunteers who have expressed an interest in becoming officers at this time, but that all the 2024 officers are willing to stay on for another year. These include Delores Currier as President; Bonnie Walters, Vice President; Taunya Lindahl, Treasurer; and Sue-Ellen Borthwick, Secretary. Members-at-Large are Vana Campbell, Kim Martin, and Jeryl Smith.
Vana moved and Shirley seconded a motion to accept the nominees for 2025 officers as presented to be installed in December. Motion passed.
It was decided the BWMHA would not participate in the Tumbleweed Bazaar this year. Last year the proceeds from the bazaar were very minimal and there are many other activities planned in October and November. Instead of the Tumbleweed Bazaar, the BWMHA discussed a raffle. Taunya has volunteered to make a Patrick Mahomes Chiefs hat complete with hair and all. She had a picture of one she had made in the past and all agreed that would be a great raffle item.
Taunya moved and Bonnie seconded the motion to not participate in the Tumbleweed Bazaar this year. Motion passed.
Sue-Ellen moved and Taunya seconded a motion to have a raffle for a Patrick Mahomes hat. The motion passed unanimously.
Discussion moved to the subject of the Grant County Gives wrap up weekend event at Bear Creek November 8, 9, and 10. It was pointed out that a Fall Bake Sale was planned for November 8 in the hospital lobby.
It was moved by Taunya and seconded by Jeri to stick to the plan for the Fall Bake Sale on November 8, but to have a table with information about the hospital auxiliary at the Bear Creek Wrap event for Grant County Gives and man it on Saturday November 9, and Sunday November 10. Motion carried.
The Health Fair was the next order of business. Joyce reported that enough volunteers have offered to bake muffins for the Health Fair. Presently it looks like there are a total of 1,084 muffins that have been promised for the Health Fair canteen. Ceshalyn Rust of State Farm Insurance has volunteered 1,000 coffee cups and Jeff Harms of Farm Bureau Financial Services has volunteered 500 drink cups. David Schumacher from Lowes Market donated a $100 gift card which will be used to purchase orange juice for the canteen.
A signup sheet was circulated for volunteers to work at Fall Fest October 12, and at the Fall Bake Sale on Friday November 8. The hours will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the hospital lobby.
Four BWMHA members volunteered to distribute pop up flower bouquet cards at the Care Home and Assisted Living.
Discussion of a chair to be donated to physical therapy was tabled for further information.
The purchase of heart rate monitors for High School cross country was tabled as there had been no further communication from the team representative.
Taunya reported she had obtained a $500 grant from 4-Imprint for promotional items for the BWMHA and has until November 3, to place our order. She suggested getting heavier cardboard signs to use for displays and also tablecloths with the BWMHA logo. Taunya presented a proposal for the new signs along with a new logo to the members. It was very creative and depicts the mission of the organization very well.
Joyce moved and Kim seconded a motion to approve the new design. Motion passed unanimously.
Jeri volunteered to help her decide on the items to purchase with the grant money.
A call for anyone interested in becoming an Associate Member of the Hospital Volunteers of Kansas was made and applications were available for those who were interested.
