In a 3-minute special meeting Thursday afternoon, the Ulysses City Council discussed Resolution 2024-13, which approved the “Miller Skies Housing Project.” The resolution was needed for a grant the city is applying for.
“It essentially state’s the council’s support for the housing project and approves the application for the Moderate Income Housing grant,” said city administrator Luke Grimes. “Simple council approval was not sufficient for the grant, they wanted a resolution, so here we are.”
The mayor, council (minus Terry Maas), Grimes and city clerk Sarah Britton were in attendance.
“This is the first time on paper that we’re agreeing to the $70,000 - or up to $70,000,” Grimes said. “Obviously we had agreed to enter into a development agreement contract to do that. So this will be your first official agreement to $70,000.”
Jesus Estrella has partnered with Weston Groth of Meade to build an apartment complex at South Main and East Miller. Construction should begin in April 2025 with completion of the first 10-unit phase by the fall of 2025.
Grimes also told the council that he and Britton attended the Grant County Commission meeting Nov 19 and they expressed favorable support.
