City Council Discusses Algae, Roads, Sunday Alcohol Sales, and Clubhouse

Posted

Algae

Council discussed algae affecting the golf course irrigation system and lake. Algae has clogged irrigation heads despite an approximately $80,000 filtration system. Potential solutions include blow-off valves, acid treatment, sonic equipment, lake aerators and rerouting a force main. Council wants to research options and gather evidence before making major purchases, seeking the most cost-effective solution while avoiding larger expenses later by addressing the problem properly now.

Road Construction

The road construction project could potentially reopen around September 7, though delays remain possible. The project has an approximately 100-day contract, with penalties possible afterward. Complications involving crossroad pipes caused delays but were corrected at no cost to the city.

Sunday Alcohol Sales

Council approved changing Sunday alcohol-sale hours from approximately 11 a.m. to 9 a.m. The golf course requested the change to accommodate tournaments, particularly on weekends.

Golf Course Clubhouse

Council discussed the proposed clubhouse, with one proposal having USI handle the exterior and a local contractor the interior. Council wants to review a couple more proposals before proceeding. While hoping to spend around $10,000, contractor estimates could reach $30,000 - $40,000. Members discussed a porch, pro shop, storage rooms, kitchen, ADA bathrooms, and parking.
