School starts Wednesday, Aug. 19. 

Kindergarten students attended kindergarten camp Monday to get acquainted with the school before the new year.

School bus drivers needed

Ulysses USD is still looking for bus drivers. Contact the district for more information.

Back-to-School Backpack Giveaway

More than 300 backpacks filled with grade-level school supplies were distributed at the new market square.

Grant County Recreation Dog Day

Grant County Recreation hosted Dog Day at the school. Proceeds for admission benefited Forever Friends.

Grant County Library

The library is hosting parent-child workshops for families with young children. Sessions are scheduled for Aug. 21 and Aug. 28. Contact the Grant County Library for more information.

Community Facebook Page

Residents can check the Ulysses community Facebook page for information about local events and a pinned “Looking for Work” post. Employers with open positions are encouraged to post openings and remove listings once positions are filled.

Ulysses Wine & Whiskey Walk

The Ulysses Wine & Whiskey Walk will be held Aug. 22 from 5 - 8 p.m. Passports will be available beginning Monday at the organizers’ office and on the night of the event for $25. Participants must present identification. The Adam Mathes Band will provide music. Completed passports can be taken to the gazebo for entry into the grand-prize drawing.

Lifeline Screening

The American Legion will host a Lifeline Screening event Thursday, Sept. 10. The screening costs $129 and will check for several potential health issues. The American Legion is providing the facility for the event.

Pioneer Annual Meeting

Pioneer Communications and Pioneer Electric will hold their annual meeting Thursday, Sept. 10. Registration begins at 4:30 p.m., followed by a free dinner and the meeting at 6 p.m. Both Pioneer organizations will be available at one registration table this year.

Ulysses Fall Fest

Fall Fest will be held Oct. 3 and will include the return of the car show. The event will feature vendors, a concert by Jake Gill on Main Street, a beer garden, a ping-pong ball drop, a tiger egg hunt, and activities for the whole family. Car owners can preregister or register the day of the event.

Labor Day Weekend Concert

The Tourism Council will host a concert Sept. 4 at Agave Azul from 7 - 10 p.m. Kyle Austin and Friends from Nashville will perform.

Russell Child Development Center

The center has added a 10 a.m. Friday group for its 0 to school-age program. The new session is in addition to the Thursday 5:30 p.m. session.

Next Chamber Coffee

The next Chamber Coffee will be Friday, Aug. 21, at Oasis Church.
