Grant County Commissioners have been working on improving county facilities, and Grant County Civic Center director Mari Honstead brought an item before the commission February 4 – flooring for the South Room.

“Well, South Room floor … it’s time,” Honstead said.

Honstead discussed the type of flooring that could be used and what the cost could potentially be.

“That room is 5,000 square feet. So I’m guessing we’re looking at – between tile and installation – about $10 to $11 a square foot,” Honstead said. “The tile’s not much, it’s the installation. The glue and prepping the floor.”

Honstead it could cost anywhere from $21,200 to $39,750 based on 2-year-old bids. She budgeted $50,000 and said the floor has lasted 10 years.

Commission chair John Martin said he’d like to get two bids for the work, and Honstead set about getting the bids.

νLoren Wright spoke to the commission about a plot of land for a potential new animal shelter project with the City of Ulysses and Furever Friends. Commission chairman John Martin was in favor of moving forward with the idea and the county is ready for a Memorandum of Understanding from the city.
