Dino Is Responder Of The Month

A servant's heart in action...

Posted

Val Dino, a dedicated nurse at Ulysses Family Physicians, has been selected as Responder of the Month. While his journey into healthcare may not follow the typical responder story, it’s his unique path and unwavering compassion that make him truly extraordinary.

A native of the Philippines, Val earned his Bachelor’s degree in Nursing in 1993. Although he once considered pursuing a career in engineering or medicine, it was his mother’s influence that ultimately guided him toward nursing—a decision that has since touched countless lives.

When the time came to move to the United States, Val had several options, including Mobile, Al., Nebraska, and New Mexico. In 2007, he and his family chose to make Ulysses their new home. Since then, he has become an integral part of the local medical community.

Val began his American nursing career in the Emergency Room at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital, where he spent two years before transitioning to the Surgery Department. Five years ago, he joined the team at Ulysses Family Physicians, where he continues to provide compassionate care each day.

Reflecting on what makes this community and hospital special, Val shared,

“This hospital stands out because you know everybody. Ulysses is a close community, and you feel like you know your patients—and it’s a gift when you can put a smile on their face.”

Outside of work, Val’s life centers on his family. His wife works for USD 214, and their son resides in Manhattan, Kan., after attending Kansas State University.

When asked to describe himself, Val humbly said he is “just a simple Filipino guy living in America, living the dream.” Yet to the many people who know him, Val represents much more than that—he is the embodiment of the American Dream itself: a man with a servant’s heart, a deep passion for his patients, and an enduring desire to make the lives of others better each day.
