Dog Owners Are A No-Show For Court Hearing

The owners of two dogs deemed to be "viscious" failed to show up in district court Tuesday morning in Ulysses.

District Magistrate Judge Mike Winner presided over a hearing at 10:15 a.m., Tuesday morning in which the owners of two dogs were supposed to appear to answer charges regarding an attack February 13, that resulted in the death of a local woman's pet.

Alice Baker lost her beloved Schnauzer Jenny when two dogs came up in to Baker's yard and attacked her. Baker attempted to come to Jenny's aid and was injured by the two dogs as well.

Baker appeared in court for the hearing Tuesday morning, accompanied by her son and a friend of the family.

Both parties identified as being owners of the two dogs that attacked had been served to appear in court Tuesday by officials from Grant County Sheriff's Department - one was served April 13 and the other owner was served April 10.

Since duo failed to appear in court, Judge Winner ordered that bench warrants be issued for the pair and that bond for each of them once they are in custody, be set at $1,000 each, cash or surety.
