Driver Accused Of Crashing Into Parked Trailer, Killing Child

GARDEN CITY, Kan. (KAKE) – Police in southwest Kansas arrested a 32-year-old man accused of hitting a trailer a parked trailer, killing a 4-year-old boy Friday night.

The Garden City Police Department said multiple agencies were dispatched at around 9:45 p.m. to the 600 block of Bancroft Street for calls of an unresponsive person. Crews found a 4-year-old boy unresponsive on a trailer and a Chrysler 200 nearby.

The child, identified by GoFundMe as Miles Roberto Rodriguez, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the driver of the Chrysler, Jacob Eichhorn, ran from the scene. Residents were able to catch him and keep him there until first responders arrived.

The investigation revealed Eichhorn was driving southbound on Bancroft Street when he struck a trailer parked on the side of the street, which caused the vehicle to become airborne before coming to a rest in the yard. Miles was on the trailer when it was struck by the vehicle.

Further investigation showed Eichhorn showed signs of impairment, and he was arrested. He remained in the Finney County Jail on Tuesday for involuntary manslaughter, driving under the influence, driving without a license, failure to stop at an accident, interference with law endorcement, records show. Online court record don't yet show any pending charges.

Eichorn is being held at the Finney County Jail on a $75,000 bond.
