Local emergency responders were called out around 10:42 p.m., Saturday, January 10, to an accident scene on South Missouri in Ulysses.
According to Ulysses Chief of Police Ron Vagher, they were notified by a dispatcher with the Grant County Law Enforcement Center that "a dark colored vehicle had collided with a building near the intersection of Central Avenue and Missouri Street."
"Upon arrival, officers located a 2022 Nissan Armada that had crashed into a building at 204 S. Missouri Street," Vagher said. "The driver of the vehicle was found at the scene at the time officers arrived."
The building, owned by Dowell Schlumberger, was vacant and Vagher said is believed to be a "total loss".
Vagher said an investigation into the collision was conducted at the scene.
"Based on the findings the vehicle was occupied only by the driver at the time of the collision," Vagher said, adding there were "no injuries reported to the driver", identified only as a 50-year-old Hispanic male.
The investigation into the crash also revealed the driver was allegedly traveling at a high rate of speed when the collision occurred.
The driver, who was not identified by Vagher at the time of our interview, was taken into custody for driving under the influence (DUI) and booked in to the Grant County Jail.
Grant County Jail log for that date shows Daniel Chavez Jr., was booked in on charges of DUI. He has since bonded out and been released.
No additional information is available at this time.
