Fairy Tale Fair 'Inherited'

Posted

Holly Mathes, Director of Grant County Library, says the Fairy Tale Fair was "inherited".

According to Mathes, the event was started more than 20 years ago from the community and schools, parents and teachers. Communities and schools had it for a few years, then their group resolved.  Grant County Library was asked if they would like to take over the event.

“We always participated in it, so it was kind of a natural progression, I think, and we were really excited to be able to do it, this is such a neat program,” Mathes said.

Each year, library staff puts on a play of one of the children’s books. This year it was “Pete the Cat Play.” The children sit on the rug and watch the play.  Adam Mathes played the guitar.

Ulysses Rotary club donated and helped serve drinks and hand out cookies. There were a lot of the community who donated cookies.

“The civic center set everything up, they were so gracious to do this for us,”  Mathes said.

Library staff goes over all the books the groups want to read and gets the books for them.

There was a total of 21 different booths and 590 people who attended the Fairy Tale Fair in an hour and a half .

"This was an amazing turn out this year," library staff said.
