Grant County is known for many things and one of the wonderful things in our community is the Grant County Library. A side from the history the library has, it also offers so many different things like monthly crafts for all departments, classes, events for the public and so much more. One of the biggest events the library offers to the public is the Fairy Tale Fair.
The Fairy Tale Fair is an event the library hosts once a year at the Civic Center.
This event is set up like a fair. Participants walk in and a variety of booths are set up to entertain children with an interesting story. Businesses and organizations in Grant County participate by setting up a booth and reading a story of their choice to the children or by providing refreshments and/or snacks to the public in attendance. This event has been a huge hit in the past and continues to grow more and more each year.
This year, the Fairy Tale Fair took place from 6:30-8 p.m., Tuesday October 1, at the Civic Center.
When participants walked in, each child received a free book of their choice, and they had a variety to choose from. Once they received their book, they were free to go to any booth or if they wanted, they could go and grab a cookie and drink.
This year there was more than 710 people who attended and 22 businesses that participated as a booth. Nine businesses/organizations donated their time and or cookies/drinks for this event. The community came together to make this event a "fairytale" success.
Reading to children helps with so many things, such as: reading aloud is a bonding experience. Reading aloud has cognitive benefits, improves social skills, can improve sleeping patterns and improves vocabulary! Reading one book a day to a child can make a big difference. Everyone is encouraged to go to the library, see what all they offer and get some books for the kids.
A huge thank you to all the businesses that took the time to read a story to the kids: Grant County Library, Grant County Recreation Commission, Grant County Health Department, Grant County Senior Center, Hickok Elementary School, Boy & Cub Scouts Troop #186, Pioneer Communications, High School English 2 Honor, Grant County Bank, Headstart, Grant County Fire Department and EMS, USD #214 Daycare, Ulysses High School FCCLA, Golden Plains Credit Union, State Farm- Cesha Rust, Ulysses High School STUCO, Ulysses High School NHS, Harvest Christian School, Ulysses High School Interact, Tarbet Guns, Compass Behavioral Health, and Learn & Play
