GUYMON, Oklahoma — Sunday afternoon at approximately 4:08 p.m., Texas County 911 Center began receiving multiple calls of an airplane crash southeast of the Guymon airport in the vicinity of a residential neighborhood. Guymon Fire Department, Guymon Police, Texas County Sheriff’s Office and Oklahoma Highway Patrol immediately responded.

"Eyewitnesses reported a plane taking off from the Guymon airport to the south. Once over the golf course, the plane appeared to make a left turn, losing altitude, then struck the ground in an open field behind homes located on Seneca Drive in Guymon," said Fire Chief Grant Wadley.

The crash resulted in a large grass fire of approximately 20 acres, which directly threatened homes on Seneca. Guymon firefighters arrived, protecting the homes and calling in fire units from Goodwell, Optima and Hooker to help contain the fire.

Texas County Sheriff's Department posted an alert via social media around 5 p.m., warning the Guymon community that they had a public safety situation in the Elks Addition of Guymon. Officials warned residents to avoid the area.

At the time of this report, one fatality is confirmed, with no more information available. Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Office of the Oklahoma Medical Examiner, FAA and NTSB are investigating the crash.
