LIBERAL, Kan. - A fatality accident occurred early Sunday morning, February 23, at approximately 1:53 a.m., .2 mile East of US83, and about 2.5miles north on US83, North of Liberal.
Authorities said a 2009 Dodge Charger being driven by Augustus J. Riley, 16, Liberal, was Eastbound on Seward County Road 9, when he failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of US83 and Road 9, becoming airborne. The Charger landed to the East of US83 on Road 9 where the driver lost control. The vehicle entered a side skid before entering the South ditch. The Charger rolled an unknown number of times prior to coming to a stop when it struck a power pole. The vehicle came to rest facing East.
Riley was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
