The First United Methodist Church of Ulysses was all decked out for the Christmas season as it played host to the final Chamber Coffee of the year on December 20.
Christian Education Director Samantha Sanchez gave a brief presentation about happenings at the church and was happy to show off the sanctuary, which was decorated for the Christmas season.
Sanchez reminded everyone of the two Christmas Eve services that took place this past Tuesday at 7 and 11 p.m. Sanchez also said that the church at 321 West Grant has worship services every Sunday at 9:30 a.m.
“If you don’t have a church home, you’re always welcome to join us,” Sanchez said.
“The church is beautiful, I must say, all decorated,” added Chamber Director Marita Hauser.
Hauser announced the winners of the Christmas Tree contest sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and Grant County Recreation. Third Place went to Golden Plains Credit Union, second place was La Estrella, and first place was The Donut Shop.
The winner of $400 in Ulysses Bucks during the Hometown Holiday Shopper was drawn at Main Street Blaze on December 19. The winner wished to remain anonymous but donated her 49 tickets to Loaves and Fishes, who received the $400.
“From Black Friday through noon (Dec. 19), people bring in their receipts and they get one ticket for every $10 spent,” Hauser said. “We had a lot of tickets in that hopper. That’s the whole purpose of the program is to encourage people to shop locally.”
Hauser gave brief announcements regarding upcoming events, starting with the Grant County EMS holding a basic EMS technical class beginning in January. There has already been one meeting leading up to the class but it’s not too late to sign up.
“There will be another meeting December 28,” said EMS Director Jeff Baier.
