Five students from Ulysses High School spoke to the Rotary Club recently about the history and background of the Declaration of Independence.
John Locke’s ideas on freedom influenced Thomas Jefferson and his writing of the Declaration. Later, the spirit of freedom in the Declaration became laws that protect American citizens. Those laws are embodied in the Bill of Rights.
Those who spoke included: (photo right, center left to right) JuJu Meraz, Ava Partida, Karely Gamboa, Talia Flores, and Jonathan Tarango. Pictured with the students are (far left) Warren Baldwin and (far right) Kevin Warner.
