Dedication, teamwork, steady commitment...

This week’s Ulysses News Responder of the Week is Joshua Garcia, a dedicated member of Grant County Fire Department whose commitment to service runs deep both at home and in the community.

Josh and his wife are proud parents to four children: their son Helios, and three daughters — Paisyn, Athena, and Aurora.

Before becoming a first responder, Josh spent eight years serving in the United States Marine Corps. Stepping into the firefighter role three years ago felt like a natural continuation of his devotion to service.

“Jumping into the firefighter position was just a continuation of helping and serving my community as best I can,” Josh shared.

He says one of the best parts of being on the department is the people. Working closely with fellow firefighters — and with neighboring counties — has been one of the most rewarding aspects of the job. Josh has responded to multiple mutual-aid calls alongside departments in Kearny, Finney, and Stevens counties, and he takes pride in how quickly and effectively the team can mobilize when others need help.

Josh is also committed to continual learning. Each call-out provides new experience, and he regularly attends additional training opportunities in Garden City to sharpen his skills and stay prepared.

Outside the fire service, Josh works for Casillas Petro as a production specialist, commonly known as a “pumper.”

His dedication, teamwork, and steady commitment to service make Joshua Garcia an outstanding representative of our local responders. We thank him for his ongoing service to Grant County and beyond..
