SATANTA - George Francis Troutt, 87, died Friday, January 9, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kan.

He was born August 3, 1938, in Beaver, Okla., to Vinnie “Coy” and Emma June (Hummer) Troutt.

His mother passed away when he was young and he and his dad “courted” Miss Clementine Lee, who later became his stepmom. He was the youngest of three brothers and two sisters that helped raise and take care of him on the family farm. George always loved and took care of his family, and his family has remained very closely knitted.

George was raised in Slapout, Okla., and attended Panhandle State University in Goodwell, Okla., where he met the love of his life, Jean Ann Quinn, in the cafeteria lunch line. They were married August 26, 1961, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Guymon, Okla.

After serving in the Army Reserves, he then completed his BS degree. He was an educator and coach for 35 years in the Elkhart, Kan., Oberlin Kan., Keyes Okla., and Satanta, Kan., school districts. He retired in 1998 after teaching and coaching for 22 years in Satanta. After retirement, he served on the Satanta School Board for 12 years starting in 2007.

George was a humble community servant which was reflected when he was presented with the Outstanding Senior Citizen Award in 2013. He was often seen mowing yards around the community after his retirement and was a regular at the Happy Agers site and the Corner Express. He was known for his sharp wit and candor even until his last days on earth.

George loved agriculture as well and was highly active in the community 4-H and Satanta FFA programs. George loved growing wheat and raising cattle on the family farm just outside of Slapout, Okla., in partnership with his brothers and sisters after his retirement.

He was heavily involved in the life of the Satanta Methodist Church by serving others, especially the children’s and youth groups. He was passionate about his relationship with the Lord and his belief in Jesus Christ as his personal Savior.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Ann Troutt of the home; son, Terry (Susanne) of South Carolina; daughter, Tammy (Brad) Clem, Shawnee, Kan.; two grandchildren: Anna Troutt and Zachary Clem; and one brother, Hoover “Marvin” Troutt; along with numerous nephews, nieces, and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Ray and Gilbert; and sisters: Ruby June Piersall and Myrtle Nine.

Visitation was from 3-6 p.m., Wednesday, January 14, at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Sublette.

A Celebration of Life will be at 10 a.m., today, Thursday, January 15, at the Satanta Methodist Church, with Reverend Wes and Reverend Elizabeth Young officiating.

Interment will follow at 3:30 p.m., today, at Fairmont Cemetery in Follett, Texas.
