Grant County Bank President Margaret Nightengale and other members of the community were all decked out in pink for the Chamber Coffee Jan. 31 in celebration of the Ulysses High School Pink Out basketball games the same night. Nightengale and the Pink Out Committee discussed activities surrounding the games, including an auction during the game and an Online auction.
“We had over 150 sponsors again this year and most of you in the room are included in that so what we want to say again is thank you,” Nightengale said. “Last year we raised $38,000 and all of those dollars stay local. They were donated to two local organizations. Women of Purpose and Du Good Events and that’s where our dollars will go again this year.”
Nightengale recognized the winner of the T-shirt design contest.
“We did have a contest at the high school this last year and asked the kids to give us some ideas,” Nightengale said. “The one that was the most unique and creative was not able to be put on a T-shirt design, so that picture is on the silent auction. We had a great turnout from the kids.”
The design that made it to the shirt was designed by Trinidad Solis.
“Congratulations on the good you all have done for the community over the years,” said Chamber Director Marieta Hauser. “$38,000 last year, wow, that’s amazing. That is really something that benefits everybody.”
Hauser discussed upcoming events, including Coats for Kids at the Grant County Library. Take your gently used and washed coats, hats and gloves to the library to give to those in need.
Legislative Coffees take place Feb. 15, March 15 and April 19 at 1 p.m. at the fire department with Rep. Marty Long and Senator Bill Clifford.
“Basically what they’re going to do is give you an update on what’s happening in Topeka,” Hauser said. “But the real purpose is to hear from you, what your needs are and what your thoughts are.”
