Here's Why Local Is the Way To Go

Posted

Just a short 8.6 miles to the East of Ulysses you will find some of the best pie around. Just ask my sister, Vhonda Longacre from Lawton, Okla. Anytime she is in the area the Wagon Wheel Cafe and Bakery is one stop she wants to make sure she doesn't miss. It is her go-to for pie - lemon meringue pie to be exact. She will purchase not a slice, but the whole pie to take home to her family.

The pies, as well as everything else on the menu, is made right there in the cafe and pie is one of their specialties.

I have to say, the fried potatoes there are one of mine. Fried potatoes was one of the favorites in our house when I was growing up.

Regardless of what you order from the menu, however, you will find out quickly you will not go away hungry. The portions are generous to say the least.

The dining area is small, so you will want to get their early, but the service is good and friendly.

Other item favorites on the menu include fried chicken, bacon cheeseburgers, meatloaf, brisket, chicken spaghetti, cheesy potatoes, lasagna, bierocks, caramel pecan rolls, quick breads and so much more. There is also a daily lunch special.

Home cooked meal? Try the Wagon Wheel.
