HOLCOMB - Holcomb police chief Cory Williams resigned as chief to care for his mother, who was diagnosed last summer with terminal Grade 4 Glioblastoma Brain Cancer.
Chief Williams’ mother is Jennifer Williams of Hooker, Okla., and owner of Dizzy B’s Corner Mart in Guymon.
Chief Williams posted the following letter on social media:
Dear City of Holcomb Residents,
It is with a heavy heart that I am posting this announcement:
As of tomorrow morning, I will NO longer be The Chief of Police for The City of Holcomb.
My mother, Jennifer Williams, was recently diagnosed with extremely aggressive terminal Grade 4 Glioblastoma Brain Cancer. Since July 24, 2024, when my mom suddenly went unresponsive and had a massive seizure our family life has been turned upside down. We were blessed to have found a wonderful brain surgeon at MD Anderson in Houston, Texas to take on her case. On August 15th, my mom was finally strong enough to have a 6-hour brain surgery performed on her. Thankfully, during surgery her surgical team was able to remove 90% of the tumor. Sadly, during surgery my mom had a significant stroke causing the loss of function to her entire left side and the loss of the majority of her eyesight. Since then, mom has required 24/7 care. On October 3rd she began another step in her courageous fight against brain cancer by starting her 6-week chemo and radiation treatments 5 days a week in Amarillo, Texas.
As her primary care giver, and medical power of attorney I have chosen to make every day with my mom and our family the best that I can. Kim and I are truly thankful for the love that we have received from many of you in our community. We have relied heavily on our faith in God to get us through this life changing event. God has truly shown his blessings upon our family and answered so many prayers for us especially the last 6 weeks that I have been off of work without pay.
During my time here in Holcomb I will always be grateful for the opportunities that I have had to help grow this community and make it safer for all of us living here. I am so proud to have been your Chief of Police for the last (one month shy) of 7 years, and I will ALWAYS cherish the memories that I have made in this wonderful town! I am proud to have collaborated so closely with the school district by getting a school resource officer integrated into our entire Holcomb School District as well as being able to help coach and mentor our youth in football and basketball. Officiating basketball games throughout the entire State of Kansas and the Oklahoma Panhandle has also allowed me to reach out to many families showing the positive side of being a Police Officer where kids feel safe to talk openly to me. When Kim and I moved here to Holcomb one of my biggest goals and visions for our community was to bring our town and families together. That is how I came up with one of the MOST enjoyable events that I had the pleasure of doing for all of you! The Holcomb Community 4th of July Event for the last 3 years has been so much fun!! Being able to bring the vision I had to fruition was a true blessing and success. I really loved everyone looking forward to this event and seeing our wonderful community come together to celebrate the 4th of July. It was so awesome seeing how big the event grew every year and giving our community something to look forward to each year by coming together in fellowship.
Looking back over the last 7 years I have had the opportunity to interact with you on so many different levels. I have been with you all through good times, bad times, sad times, hard times, I have also been able to celebrate with you, pray with you (and for you), and also grieve with you. In each chapter of our life there are many seasons, peaks, and valleys that we all must go through, but in the end, it is God, Family, and Friends that get us through each day. With that said I am so thankful for the opportunity that God gave me and my family by bringing all of you into our lives. Thank you for your love, support, and prayers. I will forever be grateful for each one of you. May God continue to watch over each one of you and bless all of you and this wonderful community!
Sincerely,
Cory Williams
