Upcoming Clinics
and Events
Flu season is approaching, and the department will began offering flu vaccinations October 1. For those unable to visit the office, the Flu Site Visit program is available within 30 miles of Ulysses.
The department will participate in the Community Health Fair October 25, at the Civic Center from 7 to 11 a.m. This free event is open to all residents. A similar health fair will take place at Seward County Activity Center October 4.
Residents can also stop by the department’s booth at October Fest, where staff will share information and answer questions about the many services they provide.
Support for Seniors
and Families
The Health Department is a local host site for food boxes for community members age 60 and older who meet income guidelines. Interested participants may apply at the office by bringing an ID and proof of address. Food boxes are distributed the first Thursday of each month. The department also accepts canned food donations to help support this program.
In addition, the department continues its commitment to children’s health through the Vaccines for Children Program, which provides immunizations for those under 18. While the vaccines are free, a small sliding-scale fee applies for administration costs.
The department also serves as a Milk Bank deposit site, collecting and distributing healthy milk for babies in need. For families with young children, there are two certified technicians on staff who provide free car seat safety checks. Thanks to generous donations from the local Women of Purpose group, the department can also provide car seats to families who need them.
Specialized Health
Services
Grant County Health Department offers services many may not be aware of, including $20 diabetic foot care and free blood pressure checks. A Certified Insurance Navigator will be on-site October 9, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., to help community members with insurance questions. Those planning to attend are encouraged to bring income forms, ID, and their Social Security number.
Women’s health is another major focus. Through the Early Detection Program, the department offers breast exams, mammograms, and Pap smears. To expand access, a mobile mammography unit will be stationed in front of the Health Department office November 3.
For those who need assistance navigating the WIC program, specialists are available on-site to help with enrollment and guidance.
A Resource for the Entire Community
Grant County Health Department continues to be a cornerstone of wellness for residents of all ages. Whether it’s preventive screenings, nutritional support, immunizations, or health education, the department is dedicated to ensuring the community has access to the resources needed to thrive.
