Lady Tiger Volleyball Sweeps Stanton County Quad Thursday

JOHNSON - After a 1-2 start to the season last week, the Ulysses Lady Tigers volleyball team swept a quad at Stanton County last Thursday, taking down Sublette, Hugoton and Stanton county in straight sets. Ulysses (4-2) was dominant from the start with a 25-10, 25-7 win over Sublette. Kaycee Riley and Aja Ysac were strong on the defensive side of the net while Piper Schultz and Jovi Hauser joined Riley and Ysac with a strong match offensively.

Ulysses followed that up with a 25-14, 25-7 win over Hugoton that saw Bella Sanchez add to her kill total, Schultz continue her dominant play on both sides of the net with several kills and a block, and Addison Harbour and Riley add to their kill totals. Ysac, Jovi Hauser and Erisbelie Alvarado all recorded aces in the win.

In the final match of the day, the Lady Tigers held off the host Stanton County Trojans 25-20, 25-18.

•Sept. 3 in Lakin, the lady Tigers opened the regular season with a triangular against the host Broncs, Colby and Holcomb, coming away with a 1-2 record for the day. Ulysses established itself early against Lakin, winning 25-20, 19-25, 25-18 before Colby got the better of the Tigers with wins of 25-12, 25-12. The Lady Tigers regrouped with a stronger effort against Holcomb before ultimately falling 25-19, 25-22.

Jovi Hauser led Ulysses with four service aces in three games, while Aja Ysac was dominant on the net with 21 kills and Kaycee Riley 11 kills. Samee Scott and Ysac were dominant on defense with 38 and 33 digs, respectively, while Erisbelie Alvarado recorded 28 assists and Piper Schultz five blocks.

•After last Tuesday’s triangular at Scott City, Ulysses will hold a home quad on Sept. 19 with Hays, Pratt and Garden City joining the Tigers in Ulysses.
