The Ulysses Tigers knew last Friday’s game at Hugoton was going to be a rough one, and it didn’t disappoint. The host Eagles put up 333 total yards of total offense to 31 for Ulysses in a 35-0 win over the visiting Tigers.

Hugoton took possession first and used a methodical 12-play drive to score on a 5-yard quarterback keeper set up by a 38-yard pass for an 8-0 Eagles lead after a 2-point conversion.

The Tigers took over and fumbled on their first play from Scrimmage, giving the ball back to the Eagles and their slow, methodical offense that eventually produced a 16-yard scoring run for a 15-0 Hugoton advantage.

The Eagles (2-0) held the ball for 10:30 of the 12-minute first quarter, and Ulysses had possession of the ball for five total minutes in the first half alone.

A 26-yard Hugoton run set up a 4-yard scoring run late in the second quarter that put the Eagles up 21-0 at halftime.

Hugoton went up 28-0 in the third quarter on a 3-yard touchdown run set up by a 13-yard pass play and set up their final score of the night in the third quarter by intercepting a pass by Ulysses freshman quarterback Tyce Perez. A 21-yard run set up a 3-yard scoring run in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter fr a 35-0 final.

Stat-wise, Perez was 4-for-12 passing for 19 yards and one interception, while Joel Guaderrama was the leading rusher with nine carries for 24 yards. Julian Meraz caught one pass for 11 yards, Nicholas Martinez one for eight yards, and Jason Curl one pass for two yards. Meraz had 55 yards in kick-return yards and Martinez 54.

Dallas Garza and Alex Hostetler were leading tacklers with eight each, Caden Ledesma seven, Parker Browning six, and Martinez, Guaderrama, and Meraz each had five tackles.

With the loss, Ulysses drops to 0-2 on the season while Hugoton improves to 2-0. The Tigers are back on the road this Friday to face a Holcomb team that garnered its first win of the season last week, 34-13 over Cimarron after opening with a 38-7 loss to Cheney two weeks ago.
