Meier Is Responder Of The Week

Proudly calling the community home.....

This week’s Responder of the Week honors Austin Meier of Grant County Fire Department — a young man whose commitment to service began long before he ever climbed onto a fire truck.

A lifelong resident of Ulysses, Austin was raised by parents Kandy and Travis, who also proudly call the community home. Growing up, he watched from the sidelines as emergency lights pierced the sky and sirens signaled that help was on the way for someone facing one of the worst days of their life. Those moments left a lasting impression.

When he became eligible, Austin didn’t hesitate. He joined the Grant County Fire Department and has now dedicated five years to serving the community he has always known as home.

Throughout his time with the department, Austin has worked to strengthen his skills and readiness. He has completed coursework in Fire Operations and Hazmat Driver Operations, ensuring he is prepared when the call comes — whether it’s a structure fire, hazardous materials incident, or emergency response on a rural roadway.

Outside of the fire department, Austin is employed with Scout Energy, where he works in the field as a pumper. Even beyond his professional and volunteer commitments, service continues to be a consistent thread in his life. He remains actively involved with the local Boy Scout troop — an organization that helped shape his character early on and instilled in him the principle of service above self.

For Austin, responding isn’t just about flashing lights and emergency calls. It’s about stepping forward when others step back. It’s about being dependable when it matters most.

Congratulations to Austin Meier, this week’s Responder of the Week.
