The Lord welcomed Michael Floyd Bowden home September 30, after a nearly year long battle with cancer.
Mike was born January 14, 1956, in Borger, Texas to Clifford Dee Bowden and Elizabeth Williams and grew up in both Borger, Texas and Liberal, Kan.
Mike moved to Houston where he met his wife, Edith, in 1980 while at work and a single pink rose would change everything. Mike and Edith were married January 31, 1981. They welcomed their first daughter Candice later that year and moved back to Borger in 1982 to raise a family.
While living in Borger, Mike worked in and managed many different grocery stores in both Borger and Fritch. In 1991, Mike and Edith would welcome their second daughter, Samantha, and remain in Borger until 2015. Mike then transferred to Ulysses, to manage the local grocery store before retirement. It would end up being his favorite of all the places he worked, and he attributed that to the wonderful community surrounding him while he was there and even after he moved to Bartlesville. In all, Mike worked in the grocery business for 53 years and held nearly every position.
Mike had many hobbies, but his favorite was golf, especially after making two hole-in-ones during his time on the course. When he wasn’t golfing, you could find him watching Star Wars with his family or watching Astros baseball. Mike also loved to work in the yard and try new foods, especially lemon meringue pie and Edith’s chocolate chip cookies.
Mike always had a positive attitude even through his entire cancer journey. He never met a stranger and always made those around him feel welcomed and seen.
He is preceded in death by parents Elizabeth Williams and Clifford D Bowden.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Edith Bowden, Bartlesville Okla., He is also survived by his brother, Steve Bowden, Temple, Texas, and sister, Pam Nicholas, Borger, Texas. Other survivors include his daughter, Candice Hyde, husband, Mark, and children: Will, Cooper and Charlotte, all of Norman Okla., and daughter, Samantha Sloan, husband, Travis, and children: TJ, Matthew and Benjamin, all of Bartlesville, Okla.
A Memorial Service for Mike is planned for 10 a.m., November 2, at Heartland Faith Church, 220 N. Simpson, Ulysses.
Following the service there will be a meet and greet at Tate’s BBQ to fellowship with family.
