Orville Frank Figgins

Orville Frank Figgins, 92, Johnson, Kan., passed away Wednesday, June 24, at Stanton County Long Term Care Unit in Johnson.

He was born December 25, 1933, in Colorado Springs, Colo., the son of Ennis Frank and Bertha Marion (Custer) Figgins. He was the oldest of six children.

Orville grew up and attended school in Colorado Springs, Colo., and Fowler, Kan., before moving with his family to the Old Clark Ranch, five miles west and one mile north of Johnson in 1944.

He then went to Manter Schools.

He married Faye McClure November 21, 1956.

After serving his country in the U.S. Army, spending 18 months in Germany and being Honorably Discharged in May of 1958, Orville and Faye moved back to Manter to farm with his father and area farmers.

Through the years he had worked at Ansel Manufacturing Company, Plateau Gas and Collingwood Grain, but spent most of his life farming with his brother, Robert. Wheat harvest was always a big event and involved everyone from the oldest to the youngest.

Orville and Faye were longtime members of the Johnson First Baptist Church and enjoyed camping and spending time with family.

He is survived by his wife, Faye Figgins, Johnson, Kan.; daughter, Vicky Wilson, Buna, Texas, and son, Ennis Figgins, Buna, Texas; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren; brothers: Richard Figgins and wife, Diane, Vilas, Colo., Russell Figgins and wife, Jackie, Pueblo, Colo.; sisters-in-law: Mary Lou Figgins, Hot Springs, Ark., Judy Figgins, Ulysses; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Robert Figgins, and Jay Figgins; sister, Barbara Smith; son-in-law, Bob Wilson; and brother-in-law, Gerald McClure.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m., Tuesday, June 30, with family present from at Garnand Funeral Home, 605 W. North St. Johnson, Kan.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 1, at Fields Memorial Wesleyan Church, Johnson, Kan., with Pastor Erik Miravete and Jonathan Emerson officiating.

Burial will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery, Johnson, Kan., with Military Honors by Southwest Kansas Veterans Funeral Honor Guard and the Kansas Military Funeral Honors.
