Shelton Memorial Christian School recently hosted their annual Vacation Bible School with the theme "Camp Chaos". This year, organizers decided to add a little twist or "pie" as it were.
"I challenged the kids to raise $500 and told them if they did, we could throw a pie in the face of Pastor Casey Chapman," said Kelly Rae Howard, Director of Christian Education at SMCC.
The annual three-day VBS hosted more than 72 people, including 26 families. Those in attendance not only met the challenge - in the "chaos" they exceeded it.
"They succeeded in meeting the challenge," Howard said. "They raised $642.79."
Howard was present at last week's Grant County Chamber of Commerce Coffee at Grant County Library and explained where the money would go from here.
"We had a camp theme for our VBS," Howard said. "We felt like since it was a camping theme, we wanted to do something for our campgrounds the Scouts use, so will be donating that to them."
Local Scout leader Craig Hampton, who was also in attendance at the Coffee, expressed appreciation to Howard and SMCC for their support.
Hampton also thanked them via Facebook.
"Shout out to Shelton Memorial Church who took it upon themselves to raise money for the Ulysses Campground," he wrote. "Teaching kids about Christ, community and camping. What a great combination. This is why we have raised our family in Ulysses."
