Pioneer Electric Cooperative has announced its 2026 Youth Tour and Cooperative Youth Leadership Camp recipients, recognizing outstanding area students who will represent the cooperative at prestigious leadership programs this summer.
Selected for Washington, D.C. Government-in-Action Youth Tour is Katelyn Burger of Stanton County High School. Burger will travel to the nation’s capital alongside delegates from electric cooperatives across the country. The weeklong experience offers students the opportunity to visit historic landmarks, meet elected officials, and gain firsthand insight into how the government operates at the national level.
Joining Burger on the Washington, D.C. trip is Audriana Peña of Ulysses High School, who will also represent Pioneer Electric this summer. The Youth Tour is designed to develop leadership skills while providing students with a deeper understanding of civic engagement and the cooperative business model.
Two additional area students have been selected to attend the Cooperative Youth Leadership Camp in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Ruben Rodriguez of Ulysses High School and Emmanuel Gonzales of Lakin High School will participate in the immersive camp experience focused on leadership development, teamwork, communication skills, and cooperative education.
The Steamboat Springs camp brings together students from across the region to learn about the principles that guide electric cooperatives while building friendships and leadership abilities that extend far beyond the classroom.
Pioneer Electric’s annual youth programs are part of the cooperative’s ongoing commitment to investing in the next generation of leaders within its service territory. By sponsoring these trips, Pioneer Electric provides students with opportunities to broaden their horizons, strengthen leadership skills, and represent southwest Kansas on a national stage.
Congratulations to Katelyn Burger, Audriana Peña, Ruben Rodriguez, and Emmanuel Gonzales on earning this exciting opportunity.
