Quick Response Makes Quick Work Of Vehicle Stolen In Grant County

A vehicle reported stolen April 16, in Grant County was quickly recovered the next day in nearby Ford County.

Grant County Sheriff's Department advised the vehicle, a 2007 Chevrolet 2500, was last seen at around 5:30 p.m., April 16 on North Road I, in Grant County. Authorities from Grant County quickly issued a "be on the look out" report to other agencies, further describing the vehicle as white, having a "Grays Yard Service" emblem on the side, and containing shovels, rakes and other yard equipment in the bed of the truck. When the vehicle, bearing Kansas tag 508659, was taken, it had a half tank of fuel, and the keys were in the vehicle.

Officials here also were quick to enter the vehicle in the National Crime Information Center as stolen.

Monday, Grant County Sheriff James Biddle confirmed the vehicle had been located late Friday night or early Saturday morning in Ford County.

"The vehicle was located at the Flying J truck stop in Dodge City," Biddle said. "Dodge City has a suspect in custody and there were a couple of other people with him."

According to Biddle, the suspects were at a motel near the Flying J.

A spokesperson for the Dodge City Police Department confirmed they had a 39-year-old male in custody for the theft of the vehicle. Two others, a 26-year-old male and a 33-year-old female were also arrested.

Officers in Dodge City noticed the vehicle after receiving the BOLO from Grant County.

According to the Dodge City Police Department the trio are being held on drug charges that are unrelated to the vehicle theft. They are still investigating and it has not yet been ascertained if the other two were involved in the vehicle theft as well.

As this is an ongoing investigation, authorities did not release the names of those arrested.
