Snow, below-zero cold invade Grant County

Posted

Grant Public Works crews were busy removing snow Monday afternoon after Ulysses and Grant County were sieged by below-zero temperatures and snow earlier this week as a well-advertised "Polar Vortex" invaded the United States. Southwest Kansas was blanketed by less than 2 inches of snow Monday, and the low dropped to 10 degrees below zero Tuesday morning pushed along by North winds that dropped wind chills to as low as 25 below. The cold was not limited to Kansas as the Arctic cold forced the inauguration of President Donald Trump inside for the first time since Ronald Reagan's second inauguration in 1985. The Arctic cold reached the Gulf Coast as 10 inches of snow fell in New Orleans, and more than five inches of snow covered the white sand beaches in Destin, Florida. (Shawn Yorks/Ulysses News)
