Stolen Vehicle Recovered Not Once, But Twice

Local law enforcement made quick work recovering a stolen vehicle not once, but twice.

And that isn't the end of the story.

According to Ulysses Chief of Police Ron Vagher, they were notified around 8:23 a.m., January 19, that a vehicle had been stolen from the 400 block of North Durham.

When officers arrived, the victim in the incident reported someone had taken her white, 2016 Kia Optima. Vagher said they were able to recover the Kia at around 3:30 p.m., that same day, in a parking lot on the north side of Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses. Before the vehicle could be secured by the owner, the vehicle was taken again and this time it resulted in a pursuit. The vehicle was spotted around 12:32 a.m., January 20, and when law enforcement attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver took off. Vagher said officers pursued the vehicle, but lost sight of it in the county. A Grant County deputy found the vehicle later that day abandoned in a local area feedlot. According to Vagher there was some damage to the interior of the vehicle, however, nothing appeared to have been stolen.

Officers weren't just busy with this case, there were three auto burglaries reported to Ulysses Police officers January 19. According to Vagher, at 4:44 a.m., January 19, a vehicle was broken into in the 1200 block of East Texas Avenue. Another report came in at 6:32 a.m., in the 300 block of North Missouri. Vagher said it appeared the culprits in this incident had attempted to steal that vehicle but were unsuccessful. A third report came in for the 1200 block of East Arizona, where a vehicle was not only broken into, but a handgun was stolen.

Initial investigation in to all of the cases over the weekend points to the possibility of multiple suspects involved.

If anyone has any information regarding any of these crimes, they are asked to contact the Ulysses Police Department at 620-356-3500.
