Susie Neatherlin, 92, beloved wife, cherished mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, left this world surrounded by family September 23.
Susie was born in La Junta, Colo., May 24, 1933, to Marciano and Guadalupe Hernandez.
When she was 17, her father passed away, and she had to quit school to help her mother take care of her younger siblings. She married her soul mate, Buddie M. Neatherlin, October 20, 1956. Buddie and Susie shared almost 68 years of laughter, tears, hard work and an unwavering commitment to each other and their family.
Susie’s whole life was devoted to family, friends, and the Lord. A running joke in the family was that if you went shopping with her, prepare to spend 45 minutes in the store. 15 minutes were spent shopping and 30 minutes were spent talking to new and old friends. Because of her caring nature, Susie made many friends throughout her life. If you were lucky to enter her front door, the first thing she would ask was if you were hungry. Her love language was food, talking and laughter.
Throughout her life, she was a strong Christian. She rarely missed church on Sunday. When her family was young, she made sure everyone attended church and religious classes. Due to Covid 19, dementia, and failing health, Susie was unable to be at church to praise the Lord in her later years. However, she prayed every day and kept the Lord in her heart. While she was able, she prayed her rosary daily.
Her husband and children were the light of her life. However, when the grandchildren and great-grandchildren were born, they filled her with joy. When her husband passed September 18, 2023, she lavished her love and attention on her great-grandchildren.
Survivors include two daughters: Judy and Linda, both of Ulysses; Buddie (Mary), Brian and Andy, all of Ulysses; grandchildren: Matthew (Terra) Neatherlin, Ulysses, Bradley Neatherlin, Ulysses, Andrea (Dalton) Kincaid, Kayley Neatherlin all of Jacksonville, NC, Joe (Alyssa) Orozco, Candy Marshall (Pittsburg, Kan.), Amber Neatherlin (Emporia, Kan.), Caleb Neatherlin (Oswego, Kan.), and Michael Neatherlin. She is survived by 19 great-grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by one brother Paul (Vena) Hernandez (Cereal, Calif.); one sister Patty Saenz (San Jose, Calif.), and four sisters-in-law: Molly Hernandez (La Junta, Colo.), and Amelia Hernandez (La Junta, Colo.), Lawana Neatherlin (Oklahoma City, Okla.), Helen (Ronnie) Garcia (Tucumcari, NM); and multiple nieces and nephews.
